WHAT IS THIS?
This will be a condensed,
2-hour lecture/class looking at the relationship between photography (and pictures/images more broadly), language (writing, text), and their overlap in the activity of reading. It will include discussion of various theoretical concerns and numerous examples of work from across photography, film, and literature. There will be room for questions, and I will also leave you with some resources to pursue the topic further.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL IT TAKE PLACE?
It will be held over Zoom on
Sunday, June 1st 2025 from 1 to 3 PM Central Time. Attendees will receive a link to the Zoom meeting that morning.
Please RSVP via the Google Form to ensure that you receive an email with the meeting link.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
I am offering this on a sliding scale of
$25-50 per person, depending on what you feel comfortable paying. Of course, if you have the means and the desire to contribute more, your support is immensely appreciated. I will share my Venmo and PayPal information at the end of the lecture.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME?
Other than your attention and openness—nothing! You are free to sit back and absorb the material, take notes, and ask any questions you might have. There will be time for discussion following the lecture.
WHAT ARE YOUR CREDENTIALS?I don't claim to be a theorist or a scholar of any kind (I am an artist, first and foremost), though I have led workshops based on this material and given lectures through a number of independent programs and university classes. Mostly, this is a topic that I have spent many years preoccupied with and reading widely about it, and I hope to share what I can about what I've learned.
